MARGARET Green Animal Rescue is celebrating today after over 80 people took part in their sponsored walk on Sunday.

The walk, which started from the charity’s rescue and rehoming centre for dogs and cats near Tavistock, was six miles long and took participants on a beautiful tour around Dartmoor.

On their return, there were treats for the dogs and plenty of cake for the hungry walkers.

Although an annual walk, this year was extra special for Margaret Green Animal Rescue as the charity celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Alan and Niki Ging who manage the Tavistock centre said: “We are absolutely delighted with the turnout, it is always wonderful to see so many supporters and so many dogs but this year we were overwhelmed by the support”.

The charity welcomed back lots of dogs that had been rehomed from the centre including Sally who had a lifesaving operation not too long ago, and Charlie the Dalmatian cross who came with his new owner.

Alan and Niki added: “We have already been given £1,400 sponsorship money and we believe there is more to come which is very exciting.

"The money raised will help us rescue and rehome even more dogs and cats”.

In addition to all the happily rehomed dogs that came along, volunteers walked the dogs currently waiting for their new homes.

Sarah Swainbank, a volunteer who walked rescue dog Hazel, said: “She is a true lady with lots of energy. She deserves a loving home.”

Margaret Green Animal Rescue would like to thank all those who took part in the walk, all those who sponsored somebody and all their volunteers for helping on the day and for walking the rescue dogs.
