PUPILS from Exmoor schools are on song to keep their heritage alive.
The youngsters have been learning traditional music and songs at workshops set up as part of the Simonsbath Festival.
The project ‘Songs from the Exmoor Forest’ is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and run by the folk and community arts organisation Wren Music, who held a series of workshops in local schools and in the wider community.
The aim is to teach the folk music, songs and traditions collected on Exmoor from the early 20th century to the 1980s.
A spokeswoman for the festival said: "Folk and traditional entertainers, Tom and Barbara Brown, have been working with children from Exford, Cutcombe and Timberscombe schools. They have been teaching traditional music and songs collected on Exmoor and even songs specifically collected from their own village which they may well never even have come across before."
The workshops culminate in a Midsummer family and community concert on June 19 at the Moorland Hall, Wheddon Cross.
