THE BRAIN Injury Rehabilitation Trust (BIRT) held a fun day at The Woodmill in Cullompton to raise awareness for the important work it does and to celebrate it's 25th anniversary.

The family fun day was held on Friday, August 19, and is an annual event for the trust. It invites current and previous service users, their families, and the public who would like to understand more about the effects of brain injuries.

More than £500 was raised by selling pottery made at its art therapy classes, a raffle, a children's lucky dip, facepainting and refreshments.

The fun day welcomed performers such as Ozy the clown, and the life-sized BIRT mascots who handed out 'show your brain some love' campaign packs. The mascots proved popular with the children and, according to the trust, will now be going to primary schools in the area to highlight the importance of looking after your brain and protecting your head.

Service manager, Emma Ellis-Clark, said: “We had a fantastic day.

"I am so pleased with all the hard work our staff and service users put into the day and also how great the Birt mascots looked."

As part of BIRT's 25th anniversary celebrations, each centre is finding innovative ways of completing 25 miles. Staff and service users from The Woodmill have sailed, dog walked and cycled. The life size BIRT mascots also completed a one mile egg and spoon race.
