9:15am Wednesday 22nd February 2012

Kingsbridge police carried out a 'Pubs Against Drugs' operation in three of the town's pubs on Saturday.

With help from a drugs sniffer dogs, officers visited the Hermitage, the Creeks End and the Quay pubs.

Two men were detained and strip searched.

Although no drugs were present, drug taking equipment was found on one of the men and further intelligence was gathered.

A police spokesman said that Pubs Against Drugs operations are run throughout Devon in order to help licensees keep their premises drug free.

The choice of pubs is random or may be in response to intelligence received from the community.

"Drugs in pubs will not be tolerated" said Sergeant David Green. "Any drug dealer hoping to deal in pubs of Kingsbridge will face the risk of a police sniffer dog coming through the door at any moment and will face imprisonment."
