POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a serious head-on crash in Tiverton left two pensioners in hospital.
The crash happened around 5.25pm on Friday, August 26, between a red Skoda Fabia and a blue Ford Mondeo just past the Bolham roundabout on the A361.
The Skoda was heading from the direction of Barnstaple towards Tiverton and the Mondeo was heading in the opposite direction.
As a result of the collision, the driver of the Skoda, a 77-year-old man from Wiltshire, suffered serious chest injuries and was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter hospital, and the 86-year-old female passenger was taken to Derriford Hospital by air ambulance with a suspected fracture to her shoulder.
A spokesman from South Western Ambulance Service said: "The crash was between three cars and there were four patients.
"One patient was taken by land ambulance to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital and another was taken to Derriford Hospital by air ambulance.
"I believe the other two patients were treated at the scene."
Police are now looking for witnesses and would like to hear from anyone who saw the crash.
If you have any information contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101, quoting log number 686.
