CULLOMPTON’S Jake Purdy is now the number one ranked Muay Thai fighter in the country at the age of just 20 after beating Solomon Wickstead.

The fight was due to take place between previous number Wickstead and UK’s number two Chris Shaw, but due to illness Shaw had to withdraw.

The fight was offered to Jake Purdy who was ranked third in the UK – and in front of a sold out Yokkao 15 with 5,000 fans at the Macron Stadium in Bolton, Purdy from the local club Team FSC Honiton, run by Sonny Perez, made history.

The youngster took an eight-count from a head kick in round one, but rallied and in round three put Wickstead into an eight count to complete a decisive victory inside five rounds.

This now places the Cullompton fighter aa the UK’s number one Muay Thai fighter at the age of 20.

Purdy, has gone from strength to strength and he gives thanks to the support of the FSC team, especially Sonny Perez for getting him his fights and training him.

He also thanked trainer, Paul Quick, who has supported Jake throughout.

Jake is an inspiration to many and his future is looking bright in the career of Muay Thai - watch this space.
