WITH a career spanning nearly four decades, Johnny Depp has done anything and everything on the big screen - but the Pirates of the Caribbean star has finally revealed his weirdest shoot.

The Somerset resident, famous for characters as diverse as the Mad Hatter and a drunk pirate, pointed to the 2007 adaptation of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Depp, who shuddered at his singing role in film, found an emotional flashback scene to be his most bizarre filming experience.

"I think that was the weirdest thing I ever had to shoot," Depp said.

"Burton literally was sobbing, he left the set of his own movie."

Tim Burton, who was the director of the 2007 release, was also deeply affected by the shoot.

"That’s when I knew [Depp] was a great actor because that was terrible," Burton explained.

"That was so bad."

Yet, it wasn't the only odd moment for The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Depp acknowledged a second discomforting task; having to soap up co-star Alan Rickman’s face.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, a 2007 musical film, has been hailed as a 21st-century cinematic triumph.

Directed by Tim Burton and shaped by John Logan's screenplay, it's based on a stage musical by Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler, further founded on Christopher Bond's 1970 play.

Raking in over $153m at the box office against a $50m budget, it is still highly regarded as one of the best musicals.

Somerset County Gazette:

Born in Kentucky and raised in Florida, actor Johnny Depp dropped out of school at 15.

He began his working life as a ballpen salesman while performing in music-garage bands.

However, his life took a dramatic turn when celebrated actor Nicolas Cage advised him to pursue an acting career in Los Angeles.

This resulted in his debut in 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' (1984). Rising to fame with the TV series '21 Jump Street' in 1987, Depp became notable for choosing critically acclaimed and unusual roles.

Collaborating frequently with director Tim Burton, some of Depp's notable films include 'Edward Scissorhands' (1990), 'Ed Wood' (1994), and 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl' (2003).

Despite the controversies and ups and downs of his career, Depp has been nominated for three Oscars among other accolades.
