PHASE A of a North Taunton housing project has won Insider’s South West Residential Property Awards for affordable housing.

An awards evening that took place in Exeter yesterday (April 18) revealed the North Taunton Woolaway Project as the winners against seven other shortlisted projects.

Judges were impressed with the high level of community engagement, alongside the impressive tenant feedback.

The project has also been shortlisted for Michelmores Property Awards for Residential Project of the Year (36 homes and over).

Somerset Council submitted applications for both awards earlier this year which included a tour of the NTWP site for judges of the Michelmores award.

Cllr Federica Smith-Roberts, lead member for Communities, Housing and Culture, said: “We’re grateful that the NTWP has been shortlisted for these regional awards, and we’re incredibly honoured to win the Affordable Housing Award.

“The homes we’ve built not only provide residents with high-quality, affordable housing but balance sustainability and innovation.

“The properties are designed to care for the environment whilst benefitting the local community long term.

“Winning against seven other worthy projects is something the team and I are very proud of and is testament to their hard work and dedication.”

The results of the Michelmores Awards will be revealed on June 27.

On its website, Somerset Council said: “The successful completion of the North Taunton Woolaway project is a priority for Somerset Council.

“The regeneration scheme, based in North Taunton, is a high-priority project which will replace defective housing by delivering new and more sustainable homes for our tenants.

“We recognise that to achieve this we need to ensure that we communicate effectively with the North Taunton community and our stakeholders.”
